Compact Flash Memory Card - CompactFlash (CF) Type I, Compact Flash (CF) Type II

Compact Flash Memory Card; one widely used Memory Card besides the huge dominationg SD Card Popularity. Compact Flash is a very small removable mass storage device which was first introduced by SanDisk Corporation in 1994. CompactFlash (CF) cards are the size of a matchbook and weigh a half ounce. Both the CF Type I and CF Type II memory cards, as well as the IBM Microdrive, provide complete PCMCIA-ATA functionality & compatibility, and compared to a 68-pin PCMCIA card, Compact Flash Memory Cards & IBM Microdrive have 50 pins but still conform to ATA specifications.

Compact Flash Memory Cards are designed with flash technology, which is a nonvolatile storage solution that does not require any batteries to retain data for long periods. Compact Flash card specification version 2.0 supports data rates up to 16MB/second and capacities of up to 137GB. CompactFlash (CF) Type I and Compact Flash (CF) Type II cards provide the lowest cost flash storage solution for all capacities, however they are the least reliable cards for storing data and tend to have more problems when data recovery is required. Important note, flash memory cards stored memory or stored data can alter on its own over time, please make backups.

SD Card, SD Memory Card - Fast & simple Secure Digital Card, MicroSD & MicroSDHC Cards

SD Card, also known as Secure Digital Card, is a fast and simple memory device the size of a postage stamp. MicroSD and MicroSDHC cards are becoming popular in mobile based cell phones. SD Memory Card was jointly developed by Matsushita Electronic (maker of Panasonic brand name products), SanDisk and Toshiba. Secure Digital Card (SD Card) weighs approximately two grams and is nonvolatile solid-state, which means that a Secure Digital Memory Card does not require power to retain the information stored on it and has no moving parts.

SD Memory Cards can be used in a variety of digital products including Digital Cameras, Digital Music Players, Cellular Phones, Handheld PCs, Digital Video Camcorders, Smart Phones, Card Navigation systems and electronic books. SD Cards have a high storage capacity and currently range from 16MB to 1TB in size. SD Memory Card offers great flexibility, excellent security, and fast data transfer rates for reliable copy, download, and backup operations.

Sony Memory Stick, Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo

Sony Memory Stick, developed by Sony, offers the convenience of recording different types of digital content and sharing and exchanging it between a wide variety of products. Sony Memory Stick is similar to a stick of gum and is about the same length as an AA battery. Sony Memory Sticks are highly resistant to shock and vibration and on certain models offer multiple memory units for increased capacity and flexible content categorization. Memory Stick media with the memory select function incorporate, for example, two 512MB memory units for a total capacity of 1GB on one Memory Stick. These Memory Sticks also ensure easy access to various stored content with the use of a mechanical switch on the back of the media that allows easy selection between the two memory units.

Duo Memory Stick is designed for use in ultra-compact and wearable devices for mobile applications. Duo Memory Sticks are one-third the size of a standard Memory Stick but offer the same functions and performance. Duo Memory Stick, when attached to an adapter, can be used in the same line of products as the standard size media. Memory Stick PRO, jointly developed by Sony and SanDisk, offers high capacity and high-speed data transfer which meets the new needs of the broadband era. Memory Stick PRO media enables real-time recording of high-resolution video and other solutions for the broadband era in a reliable and secure environment. To meet this high-quality video recording, the Memory Stick PRO minimum write speed has been standardized at 15Mbps and supports data transfer speeds of up to 160Mbps (theoretical value).

SmartMedia Card is highly portable and can be carried in a pocketbook or a credit card holder. Compared to other Memory Cards, which use a semiconductor memory assembled on a circuit board, SmartMedia Cards have very simple structures. Smart Media Cards feature an embedded NAND-type flash memory chip, and are less costly than other Memory Cards. The NAND-type flash memory chip on all Smart Media contributes to the quick write and erase speeds since the data is written in small increments.

Smart Media Card; can be used is several different digital devices; including Digital Cameras, PDAs, Digital Music Players, and Digital Voice Recorders.
